Terem Moffi spends holiday in Cross River, donates cash, football kits to female football club

Nigeria Super Eagles and OGC Nice forward, Terem Moffi, is in Cross River State to spend his holiday with his family.

The goal poacher would’ve chosen anywhere in the world to spend his holiday after the completion of the French Ligue 1 and European Football season but he chose his homeland, Cross River State, which of course, is a tourist destination in Nigeria.

The 25-year-old striker visited the Ministry of Sports Development on Wednesday, 29th May 2024, where he magnanimously donated the sum of One Million Naira (N1,000,000) and twenty-five (25) football boots to the Pelican Stars Football Club, as well as replica Jersey of his club to the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.

Pelican Stars FC is a female football club in Cross River State, currently playing in the Nigeria Women’s Football League Championship, the second division for women’s football in the country.

The Ogoja-born forward stated that he deemed it necessary to embark on the courtesy visit to the Sports Ministry as the place where he started his football career. As a young player then, he was playing for Ysfon Academy and Diamond Stars Football Club.

Moffi lived inside the UJ Esuene Stadium Hostel in Calabar and did his training at the stadium which led him to attain the height of success in his football career.

He thanked the Commissioner and staff of the Ministry for the warm reception they offered him while promising to partner with the Ministry to further improve sporting activities in the state.

The Commissioner for Sports Development in the State, Mrs Agnes Atsu, on behalf of the Governor, welcomed the Moffi to her office with open arms.

Atsu applauded Terem Moffi’s father, Mr Leo Moffi, who played for Enugu Rangers and Calabar Rovers Football Club, for his outstanding contributions to football development in the State, especially in nurturing his son to continue his career on the same path.

The Commissioner said Moffi, who is now Football Ambassador of the State, and other Cross River indigenous athletes who are making the state proud will be honoured by State Governor, Prince Bassey Otu in a grand reception at the Government House.

She disclosed the Governor’s agenda of extending sporting activities to other parts of the state, with the building and equipping of a world-class stadium at Ogoja, which will meet the standard of hosting football tournaments and other sports competitions.
