Speed is one of the most exhilarating attributes in football. It can transform defense into attack in seconds, leave defenders struggling to keep up, create unforgettable moments for fans, and even alter the outcome of a sports betting slip in an instant. In 2025, some of the fastest players in history have been lighting up the pitch with their blistering pace.
Here’s a look at the top 10 speedsters in the game today and how their rapid acceleration has wreaked havoc on opponents.
1. Micky van de Ven (37.38 km/h)
Tottenham’s Dutch sensation Micky van de Ven has redefined what it means to be a rapid center-back. Clocking an astonishing 37.38 km/h, he has become a crucial part of Spurs’ defense, effortlessly recovering possession and shutting down counterattacks. His pace was on full display in Tottenham’s clash against Manchester United, where he sprinted from deep to outpace Marcus Rashford and snuff out a dangerous attack. A center-back running at these speeds? Unreal.
2. Kyle Walker (37.31 km/h)
At 33, most footballers slow down—but not Kyle Walker. The AC Milan loanee right-back remains a nightmare for wingers with his incredible speed. Whether it’s chasing down Vinicius Jr. in the Champions League or making lung-busting overlapping runs, Walker is still one of the fastest men in football. His 37.31 km/h sprint against Arsenal last season is proof that Father Time has nothing on him just yet.
3. Nuno Mendes (37.2 km/h)
Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes is a rocket on the left flank. The Portuguese left-back has been a terror for defenses, using his 37.2 km/h speed to blaze past opponents. His standout moment? A jaw-dropping run against Marseille, where he covered the entire length of the pitch in just a few seconds to assist Kylian Mbappé.
4. Chiedozie Ogbene (36.93 km/h)
Luton Town may have been relegated from the English Premier League, but Chiedozie Ogbene was a standout performer during their brief stint. Against Liverpool, he effortlessly outpaced Trent Alexander-Arnold, proving that his 36.93 km/h top speed is no fluke.

Chelsea’s Pedro Neto is known for his lightning-fast dribbles. At 36.86 km/h, he leaves defenders trailing behind, as seen in his solo run against Wolves where he single-handedly dismantled their defense from the halfway line. Injuries have slowed him down in the past, but when he’s fit, he’s one of the deadliest speedsters in the Premier League.
6. Dara O’Shea (36.73 km/h)
A center-back with one of the fastest speeds in world football? That’s Dara O’Shea. Playing for Ipswich Town, he shocked everyone when he clocked 36.73 km/h in a Championship game. Not bad for a defender expected to hold the backline rather than race past strikers.
7. Antonio Rüdiger (36.7 km/h)
Antonio Rüdiger is more than just a rock-solid defender—he’s a speed machine. The Real Madrid star hit 36.7 km/h, proving why he can keep up with the world’s fastest forwards. Whether it’s tracking back against Barcelona or sprinting forward to join the attack, Rüdiger’s pace makes him a unique asset for Los Blancos.
8. Anthony Gordon (36.68 km/h)
Anthony Gordon has been flying down the wings for Newcastle United. The English winger’s acceleration makes him a constant threat, and his 36.68 km/h speed helped him breeze past defenders in a stunning solo goal against Aston Villa. His pace, combined with his dribbling ability, makes him a nightmare for full-backs.
9. Karim Adeyemi (36.65 km/h)
Karim Adeyemi doesn’t just run fast—he leaves defenders for dead. The Borussia Dortmund star’s 36.65 km/h speed was evident in last season’s Champions League when he sprinted past Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández to score a breathtaking solo goal. With acceleration that rivals a sprinter, Adeyemi is a future star in the making.
