Former United States Women National Soccer Team (USWNST) player, Megan Rapinoe has claimed “God does not exist.”
Rapinoe made the assertion on Sunday during her final for the OL Reign in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) where she picked up an injury.
CONVERSEER reports that Rapinoe who recently retired from the national team was injured three minutes into the final match of her career.
She said: “I’m not a religious person or anything and if there was a God, this is proof that there isn’t. This is f***ed up.”
The 38-year-old who had a torn Achilles tendon also stated that “It was a tough one. It’s definitely not how I envisioned this last one going.”
She added “Thank you to everyone who’s been on the journey for all this time. It’s been amazing – maybe besides this. I couldn’t have written it any different.
“I am just super proud of my whole career and really thankful for all that it’s given me and for how long I’ve been able to play.
“Even though it was a tough night, it was still amazing and I’m so thankful to be here and again, so proud of our group.”

Winner of the Ballon d’Or Féminin and named The Best FIFA Women’s Player in 2019, Rapinoe won gold with the national team at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup and she played for the team at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup where the U.S. finished in second place.
However, she has never won the NWSL despite her 11-year spell. She only managed a league title in France with Lyon in 2013.
Rapinoe has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, which is contrary to many religious beliefs.
