Calabar, Cross River State – The ancient city of Calabar was wrecked by torrential rainfall, which destroyed the new Good Shepherd Roundabout and other multimillion properties.
Converseer reports that the rain, mixed with heavy wind, thunderstorms and flooding, started on Saturday night to the early morning of Sunday, leaving properties worth millions of Naira destroyed.
Some of the affected properties include the Good Shepherd (Jesus) Roundabout (formerly Zone 6 Roundabout) by Zone 6 Police, with the Good Shepherd and some of the sheep blown away.
Surefoot Academy opposite Zone 6 was also affected by trees falling on the perimeter fence.
Also, along Mount Zion, cars were swept into drainages by the heavy flooding that followed the torrential downpour.
Meanwhile, economic trees were also wrecked, covering the major roads of Murtala Mohammed Highway, Marian Road (Ndidem Usang Iso), Parliamentary Road, Mary Slessor Avenue, IBB Way, Mount Zion by Yellow Duke, State Housing Estate, Federal Housing Estate, Essien Town, Ikorinim I & II, and several other places.
Electrical wires and poles also fell on some of the roads, including Kasuk by Beebosco Roundabout.
Several streets were covered with debris from drainages due to the heavy flooding.
Converseer reports that no life was lost as the Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA) officials are clearing the roads of the fallen trees and debris, at the time of filling this report.
Also, at the time of filing this report, the Police had barricaded the area of the Good Shepherd Roundabout where the Shepherd was standing.
