Former Chelsea left-back, Marc Cucurella, has expressed his willingness to “welcome” his former teammate, Enzo Fernandez, to Real Madrid this summer, as the Spanish club shows interest in the Argentine player.
Cucurella has publicly commented on Fernandez, who is being pursued by Real Madrid this summer.
According to sources, Los Blancos are keen on acquiring the 25-year-old during the summer transfer window, although they have not yet made official contact with Chelsea regarding a transfer.
Fernandez is eager to join Madrid, a sentiment he openly shared during a revealing interview in March, and personal terms are not anticipated to pose any difficulties.
While Chelsea is not actively seeking to sell Fernandez, they are open to negotiations for the right price. Insiders at Stamford Bridge indicated at the end of May that the Argentine has a £120 million valuation for any interested parties.
Cucurella himself transferred to Real Madrid in mid-June, with Chelsea agreeing to a total package of £51.7 million (£47.4 million fixed fee plus £4.3 million in potential add-ons) after he made his intentions to leave clear to his previous club.
Since his departure from Chelsea, the Spain international has participated in numerous interviews, and in this instance, he discussed his former teammate and close friend, Fernandez.
In an interview with the Spanish news outlet AS, Cucurella was inquired whether Fernandez had congratulated him on his move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The former Chelsea left back responded, “He congratulated me, we’re great friends and we’ve developed a very good relationship.
“If there are rumours [Fernandez to Real Madrid], well, I wish a friend all the best. And if he wants to take that step, then welcome. I don’t know anything, we will see.”
Jose Mourinho is reportedly a significant admirer of Fernandez, but Madrid is believed to be considering other central midfielders as well.
