Update on Peter Obi’s arrest by DSS

Mr Val Obienyem, Media Adviser to Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has denied rumours that the former governor of Anambra State was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) at his home.

Unconfirmed reports were suggesting that Obi and his wife, Margaret, had been detained. However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, Obienyem dismissed these claims as false and without basis.

He clarified that the rumour began circulating on Saturday but was quickly debunked. At the time of the alleged arrest, Obi was not in Anambra State but in Rwanda, attending important engagements.

“He has since returned to Nigeria and is currently in Edo State, where he is actively involved in party and national matters.”

Obienyem reassured the public that no DSS operation took place at Obi’s residence, and no arrest occurred.

“There was no DSS operation at his residence, and no arrest was made,” he emphasised.

Obienyem urged people to disregard the false information and remain cautious against misinformation.

He said official updates on Peter Obi’s activities will be communicated through the proper channels.
