US Congressman calls for disarm of Fulani militants after school children abductions

By Joe Udo

VIRGINIA (CONVERSEER) – United States Congressman representing Virginia’s Second District, Rep. Riley M. Moore, has condemned the abduction of more than 300 children and 12 teachers from St Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State, calling on the Nigerian government to take decisive action against armed groups operating in the region.

The attack, which occurred on Friday morning, involved armed assailants who stormed the school premises while shooting sporadically before abducting a large number of pupils and staff.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over insecurity in the Middle Belt and northern parts of the country.

Reacting to the development on Saturday, Rep. Moore expressed deep concern over the mass abduction. Writing on his official X handle, the congressman said the news left him distressed, especially as a parent.

“We now know that more than 300 children and 12 teachers have been kidnapped from St Mary’s Catholic School in Nigeria,” he wrote.

“As a father, seeing these attacks makes my stomach turn. The Nigerian government must disarm the radical Muslim Fulani militants terrorising the Middle Belt.”

Moore’s remarks add to growing international attention on Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly the persistent incidents of mass abductions targeting schools.

Nigerian authorities have yet to provide an official update on the rescue efforts, but security agencies are reported to be tracking the attackers and working towards securing the release of the hostages.
