Vice President Shettima Heads to Davos to Represent Nigeria at the 2025 World Economic Forum

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja to participate in the 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

The announcement was made in a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, on Sunday.

Nkwocha noted that Shettima will join global leaders, top business executives, and representatives from development organizations at the prestigious event to discuss the state of the global economy and explore strategies for improvement.

During the WEF, Vice President Shettima will hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders and participate in various forums and workshops. Among the highlights of his schedule is his attendance at the “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets” workshop, organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the WEF.

According to Nkwocha, the workshop will focus on driving investment into Africa’s emerging markets and scaling solutions for a prosperous and inclusive continent. “Top on the agenda will be the announcement of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) Roadmap for Africa, in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB),” Nkwocha said.

He added, “This initiative aims to foster partnerships between public and private sector leaders, mobilizing investments for Africa’s frontier markets and addressing pressing economic challenges.”

Vice President Shettima will also co-chair a forum titled, “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa,” at the Pischa Congress Centre. The session will emphasize the private sector’s role in advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Protocol, adopted by African Union (AU) leaders in January 2024.

Nkwocha explained, “This session will provide a dynamic platform for forward-thinking dialogue on digital trade and its potential to catalyze economic growth across the continent.”

The Vice President will participate as a panelist in the “Global Risks 2025” Stakeholder Dialogue, addressing pressing global challenges. He will also attend exclusive events, including a dinner for Heads of State, government leaders, and international organizations, as well as the Annual Meeting and 2025 Crystal Awardees of the International Business Council and Strategic Partners at Kurpark Village, Eiger.

Shettima will be accompanied by key government officials, including Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, and Aisha Rimi, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission.

Nkwocha concluded by stating that the Vice President is expected to return to Abuja upon completing his engagements in Davos.

The annual WEF meeting provides a significant platform for Nigeria to engage with global stakeholders, highlighting the country’s economic potential and fostering collaborations for sustainable development.
