Volvo Issues Recall for Three Models Due to Brake Issues

Volvo Car SA has issued a recall for three of its models due to potential software failures in the brake control system.

The affected models include the XC90, made available for sale on January 20, 2023, the XC90 sold from October 29, 2024, and the XC40 MY2024, which became available on January 24, 2024.

According to Volvo, investigations revealed a potential software failure in the brake control module of the XC90, which could result in a loss of braking support function. Additionally, the National Consumer Commission (NCC) stated that some XC90 models were recalled due to a manufacturing defect in the rod between the brake pedal and brake booster. This defect could lead to the brake pedal not functioning correctly if the rod detaches.

For the XC40 MY2024, Volvo reported an issue with the turn indicator system that could, in rare cases, cause a temporary loss of the left rear turn indicator function. Consumers who own these vehicles are advised to contact the supplier for further assistance.

In a related development, Cape Herb and Spice has recalled several seasoning products manufactured between September 2023 and May 2024 due to a defect in the grinder mechanism. The affected products include Cape Herb and Spice Chilli & Garlic Seasoning, Black Peppercorns, Pink Salt, Salt & Pepper, Sea Salt, Seasoned Salt, and Sweet & Smokey BBQ. The defect could cause the grinder mechanism to break during use, releasing hard plastic fragments into the seasoning.

The NCC has urged consumers to stop using the affected vehicles and products immediately. Consumers are advised to return the items to the supplier or point of purchase for a full refund. Acting Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu emphasized the importance of taking swift action to ensure consumer safety.
