Weather update for 21st January 2026 across Nigeria

NIGERIA DAILY WEATHER OUTLOOK

NiMet encourages all Nigerians to remain weather-aware as activities continue across the country. Please find the expected weather conditions below.

Northern States

Morning:
Sunny and hazy skies are anticipated across the region during the morning hours.

Afternoon/Evening:
Sunny and hazy conditions are expected to persist across the northern states throughout the afternoon and evening.

Central States

Morning:
Moderate dust haze is anticipated over parts of Niger, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory, with horizontal visibility ranging between 2–5 km.
The remaining central states are expected to experience sunny skies with a few patches of cloud.

Afternoon/Evening:
Sunny conditions with patches of cloud are expected to prevail across the region through the afternoon and evening.

Southern States

Morning:
Sunny skies with a few patches of cloud are anticipated, with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

Afternoon/Evening:
There are prospects of thunderstorms with light rainfall over parts of Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, Ogun, Imo, Abia, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom States, while other areas are expected to experience sunny skies with cloud patches.

Weather Advisory

i. Dust haze may reduce horizontal visibility over parts of the country; the public is advised to take necessary precautions.

ii. People with asthmatic conditions and other respiratory challenges should be cautious.

iii. Motorists are advised to drive with caution, especially during rainfall.

iv. Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective operational planning.
