West Texas VA Set to Begin Construction on New Abilene Community-Based Outpatient Clinic

West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS) will host a groundbreaking ceremony at noon Jan. 27 for its new Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Abilene.

This state-of-the-art facility will expand access to high-quality health care for veterans in the region, furthering our commitment to honor and serve those who have served the nation. It will be at 5602 Health Center Drive in Abilene.

The groundbreaking ceremony will include remarks from VA leadership, local officials, and community partners, followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking and lunch, a news release said.

Dr. Wendell Jones, Director, Veterans Integrated Service Network 17, Keith Bass, Medical Center Director, West Texas VA Health Care System, local elected officials, community leaders, veterans and their families will be on hand.

The release said the event marks a significant step toward improving health care access and delivery for veterans in Abilene and surrounding areas. The new CBOC will enhance the VA’s ability to provide primary care, mental health services, and specialty care closer to where veterans live and work.

WTVAHCS serves veterans across West Texas and southeastern New Mexico, providing comprehensive health care services at six locations, including the George H. O’Brien Jr. VA Medical Center in Big Spring and community-based outpatient clinics in Abilene, Fort Stockton, San Angelo, Odessa and Hobbs, New Mexico. They encourage all veterans to find a VA health facility near them and to manage their health care needs online.
