We’ve not received palliatives, our subvention no longer coming – Faith-based Organisation tells Gov Otu

The Uniform/Faith-Based Organisation (FBO), also known as the Voluntary Youth Organisation (VYO), Cross River State Chapter, is calling on Governor Bassey Otu to come to its aid as its members were not captured in the ongoing palliatives distribution.

The group also lamented the discontinuation of subventions from the State Government.

In a press release signed by Amb. Nsikak Effiong, State Commander of FBO, dated 27th July and made available to CONVERSEER on 13th August, the group said the current hardship faced by the nation is also hitting on them.

“We wish to bring to the attention of the Cross River State Government the current marginalised state of our members. We have observed with great concern the recent distribution of palliatives where our members were conspicuously excluded. This act of marginalisation is disheartening, especially during these challenging times when every citizen requires support.

“Additionally, we note the discontinuation of subventions that have previously supported our operations and initiatives. These subventions are critical to our mission of providing spiritual and social support to our communities. The absence of these funds has severely impacted our ability to effectively serve our members and the wider community.

“In light of the above, we earnestly request that the FBO be included in the ongoing distribution of palliatives and the proposed Conditional Presidential Grant. This inclusion will not only alleviate the current hardship faced by our members but also empower us to continue our valuable contributions to the state’s socio-economic and spiritual well-being,” the statement read.

The statement which also disclosed that the group didn’t join the protest because they prefer dialogue than matching on the streets, added that, “We believe that dialogue is a more constructive approach to addressing our concerns and achieving lasting solutions. We call upon the state government to engage with us in meaningful dialogue to address the plights of the youths.

“We remain hopeful that the state government will consider our requests favourably and take prompt action to integrate the FBO into the Conditional Presidential Grant scheme, palliative distribution and restore the subventions. Our commitment to peace and constructive engagement remains unwavering, and we trust that our appeal will be met with the attention it deserves.”
