The Cross River State Government, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Kingdom (UK) Government, is taking significant steps to enhance nursing education at the College of Nursing, Ogoja.

As part of this initiative, the college is set to receive essential equipment and support to strengthen its academic and training programs.

During an official visit to the institution at weekend, the Commissioner for Health, Dr.Henry Ajuk, represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Nursing, Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving nursing education.

He assured the WHO delegation, led by Dr. Olumuyiwa Ojo, that the newly provided equipment would be effectively utilized for the growth and development of the college.

Esu emphasized that the Cross River State Government welcomes further partnerships to elevate nursing education and training across the state.

He highlighted that all nursing schools in the state have now transitioned into full-fledged Colleges of Nursing, a transformation strongly supported by Governor Bassey Otu.

He also noted that significant progress had been made since WHO’s last visit, with visible structural improvements now in place.

“The College of Nursing, Ogoja, recently received accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). This is a testament to the government’s dedication to the sector. The school is well-equipped to sustain this development,” Esu stated.

Dr. Ojo on his part, explained that WHO’s visit aimed to take inventory of previously supplied materials and assess the college’s readiness for further support.

Expressing satisfaction with the improvements, he commended the Cross River State Government for securing accreditation for the institution and assured continued WHO support for its development.

The Provost of the College of Nursing, Ogoja, Dr. Enyieko Ohora, expressed deep appreciation to the Cross River State Government, WHO, and the UK Government for their unwavering support in transforming nursing education in the state, pledging that the institution would continue striving for excellence in nursing and midwifery training.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to enhance healthcare education and improve the quality of nursing professionals in Cross River State.
