Why do you want to use God’s 10 percent to take care of a sick person? Pastor Timothy asks

Former Ghanaian actor turned pastor, Timothy Bentum, has sparked discussion among Christians after questioning why some church members use their tithes to support sick people instead of setting aside their personal income for such needs.

In a short video clip from one of his church services, the founder of Timothy Bentum Ministries is heard advising his congregation not to use what he described as “God’s 10%” for personal or charitable expenses.

“Why do you want to use God’s 10% to take care of a sick person? What happened to your 90%?” Pastor Bentum asked.

According to the pastor, Christians should remain committed to the purpose of tithing and should not make excuses for redirecting their tithes toward other responsibilities, regardless of the situation.

He explained that while helping people in need is important, such support should come from the remaining 90 percent of a believer’s income rather than from the portion dedicated as tithe.

“If you want to help another person, it should come from your 90% and not the 10%,” he stated.

Pastor Timothy Bentum, who gained recognition as an actor before transitioning into full-time ministry, has over the years shared teachings on Christian principles, faith, and financial discipline with his followers.

His comments have since generated conversations on social media, with some people agreeing with his interpretation of tithing while others argue that helping the needy is also a key responsibility of Christians.
