World Cup 2026: Enyimba, Remo Stars to benefit from FIFA’s windfall

Former African champions Enyimba and Remo Stars will benefit from the Federation of International Football Association, FIFA, windfall for releasing during the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

FIFA has set aside a $355m benefit programme for clubs who released their players during the qualifiers.

The reward for clubs will cover the qualifying series for the first time.

According to FIFA, each club will receive at least $2,360 per player.

The qualifying campaign ran from November 2023 to October 2025.

Remo Stars released four players: Benin Republic goalkeeper Adebiyi Obassa (eight matches), Kayode Bankole (two matches), Sodiq Ismaila (two matches) , and Togolese striker Franck Mawuena (three matches).

Enyimba also released goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo for two matches.

Remo Stars are expected to receive about $35,400, while Enyimba will get around $4,720.
