South Africa, on Thursday, became the sixth African country to win at least one match at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.

The Bafana Bafana defeated South Korea 1-0 in their final Group A clash at Mexico City Stadium, thanks to a second-half goal from Thapelo Maseko.

The win also ensured South Africa finished in second position in the group with four points as they progressed to the Round of 32 stage.

Before the South Korea game, South Africa had lost 2-0 against Mexico in their World Cup opener and also drew 1-1 with Czechia in their second match.

DAILY POST reports that the other African countries to record at least a win at the ongoing World Cup so far are Egypt, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Morocco (2).

Ivory Coast was the first African country to win a World Cup match after defeating Ecuador 1-0 in their first game.
