According to the official WeChat account of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the world’s first zero-carbon reheating natural gas pressure differential power generation system, jointly developed by the institute and Zhongke Jiulang (Beijing) Energy Technology Co., Ltd., was officially put into operation in Qufu, Shandong Province.

The system boasts 100% self-sufficiency in core equipment and processes, with a maximum power output of 500kW and an annual power generation capacity of over 3.3 million kWh. Furthermore, through its original zero-carbon reheating process, the system has achieved, for the first time internationally, maintaining an outlet temperature above 0°C under conditions of zero fuel and zero external heating in winter , breaking through the major technical bottlenecks in the promotion and application of natural gas pressure differential power generation systems.

According to official information obtained by IT Home, natural gas differential pressure power generation systems utilize the pressure energy wasted during the depressurization of natural gas pipelines in the middle and lower reaches to drive a differential pressure turbine expander to generate electricity, thus converting pressure energy into electrical energy. However, because the temperature drops after natural gas expands and depressurizes, the moisture it contains can freeze, easily causing ice blockage. This usually requires an external heat source, such as a gas-fired boiler, to resolve the ice blockage problem.

The world’s first zero-carbon reheating natural gas pressure differential power generation system developed in this project not only achieves natural gas pressure reduction power generation, but also reheats the exported natural gas through process innovation. The entire process does not consume any additional natural gas or electricity , completely eliminating dependence on external heat sources such as gas-fired heaters, and achieving true zero-carbon pressure differential energy recovery.

The world’s first zero-heat-source reheating natural gas differential pressure power generation system has been successfully developed and put into operation. It can effectively promote the rapid development of natural gas differential pressure power generation technology and industry, transform a large number of natural gas gate stations into distributed zero-carbon power stations, and convert the pressure energy wasted in the original natural gas pipeline network into a large amount of zero-carbon electricity . While realizing the construction of zero-carbon natural gas stations, it effectively supports the realization of the national dual-carbon strategy goals.
