Kano, Nigeria – Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has welcomed 29 Kano state students who successfully completed their postgraduate studies at SR University in India, marking a pivotal achievement in Kano’s foreign scholarship initiative.
The students’ return was celebrated during a reception at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, where Governor Yusuf, accompanied by Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, personally greeted the graduates.
The event underscored the importance of the state’s investment in education and human capital development. The 29 graduates are part of the Kano State Government’s ambitious program to sponsor 1,001 students for higher education abroad. Speaking at the reception, Governor Yusuf praised the students’ dedication and hard work, emphasizing how their newly acquired knowledge would contribute to Kano’s socio-economic progress.
“Your success is a testament to the potential that exists within Kano’s youth,” Governor Yusuf remarked. “We must ensure that more talented individuals are given the same opportunities.”
The Governor also used the occasion to announce the reopening of the application process for a new round of scholarships under the 1,001 Postgraduate Scholarship Programme. This initiative aims to provide more students from Kano with the chance to pursue higher education at private and public universities both locally and internationally.
This new phase of the program reaffirms the state’s commitment to uplifting its youth through academic and professional development. Governor Yusuf’s administration has prioritized education as a cornerstone for economic growth, especially for underprivileged students.
The 29 graduates from India are among the first cohort of the 1,001-student scholarship initiative. Students sponsored by the government have also returned from Uganda, with more expected to arrive from other countries in November and December.
