Governor Otu and 27 Cross River Permanent Secretaries

Governor Bassey Otu has sworn in new 27 Cross River Permanent Secretaries into the State Civil Service, emphasising the need for heightened efficiency and productivity in the public sector.

Addressing the newly inaugurated officials at the temporary office in Calabar on Wednesday, Governor Otu stated that, “It is truly commendable to witness a greater representation of women in the role of Permanent Secretary today, which speaks volumes. I emphasise that this position carries significant responsibilities of fostering innovative ideas within the service. As both the financial overseer and administrative leader of your respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), passing the buck will no longer be tolerated. It is imperative that you identify and eliminate any detrimental practices hindering progress. This appointment aligns with our objective of an administration centred on the welfare of the people.

“Moreover, while many directors may be qualified for the role of permanent secretary, the selection process is based on the existing vacancies within the MDAs. This underscores the pivotal role each individual plays in this setting. My administration is dedicated to enhancing your well-being, but subpar performance may result in repercussions. Thus, I urge you to meet the high expectations set by the government and the populace.

“I extend my congratulations to all the newly appointed permanent secretaries and pray that they are bestowed with wisdom to continue rendering invaluable service to their homeland.”

In his introductory remarks, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Anthony Owan-Enoh, described the appointments as a recognition of hard work and consistent dedication to service, signifying a proven track record of excellence.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the new Permanent Secretaries, Dr Jonah Bassey Offor pledged to exert their utmost efforts within their respective MDAs to propel the state towards progress.

The list of newly appointed 27 Cross River Permanent Secretaries comprises: Bassey Onoyom Bassey, Offiong Ani Offiong, Joseph Ikongha Odey, Okorn Ayang Oyira, Helen Oyem Bessong, Engr Paul Ugbe Bepeh, Rita Ashibibiye Eteng, Eyo Ekpe Offiong, Gold Okpo Nta, Caroline Enembe Edet, Balinwo Ofem Ofegobi, Dr Jonah Bassey Offor, Glory Odu-Oji, Ekpenyong Micah Esuabana, Eyibio Kingsley Ndem, Philomena Nyire Nyiam, Barr Francis Adebe Oyije, Gabriel Ogbaji Ukwada, Engr Okon Asuquo Ita, Dr Eke Okon, Gertrude Odu, Jacqueline Akpanke, Barr Lucy Bassey Enakirerhi, Ettah Inyang Eyo, Barr Tony Effiom, Mr John Odu, and Mr Patrick Edi.
