Lawyer calls for Bobrisky’s freedom, says nothing’s wrong spraying money when you’re happy

A human rights advocate, Barrister Anthony Kelechi Agbasiere, has called for the freedom of the controversial cross-dresser, Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, who is currently serving a six-month imprisonment without an option of fine for abusing the Nigerian currency, naira, noting that nothing is wrong in spraying money when one is in a happy mood.

Agbasiere made the call on Saturday, 20th April, in Awka, during the birthday celebration of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Pool King Estate Nigeria, Hon. Gabriel Chukwunwendu.

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Bobrisky, over currency mutilation and abuse of the Naira at Pinnock Estate in Lagos State earlier this month and he was subsequently sentenced to six months imprisonment by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Lagos.

Reacting further on the development, Barr. Agbasere, who is also a Knight of Saint International, appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intercede, adding that people spray money just to show appreciation to a celebrant or someone who is doing something good. “For me, I do not see any wrong in that.

“To my little understanding, Bobrisky was in a happy mood, spraying the naira before the incident occurred.

“Currency is being sprayed across the globe, even in the United States of America, the dollar is also sprayed there without any intimidation or harassment as been practised in Nigeria. The US dollar has no value than naira. So the government should free Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye a.k.a Bobrisky.

“I advised the EFCC to channel their search-touch into the Nigeria banks because a lot of things are happening there uninvestigated.

“The National Assembly members are there stimulating their energies on unnecessary things. This is a misplacement of priority. The lawmakers should focus more on things that will move the country forward.

“I have been advocating and I challenged the members of the National Assembly, if they claim they are patriotic, let them pass this law in Nigeria; election rigging and embezzlement of the public fund as capital offence (death sentence), which I strongly believe that with this two laws, Nigeria will be better for all of us,” Agbasiere concluded.
