Do you remember the young Igbo linguistic professional, Mazi Ogbonnaya Okoro, who translated Physics textbooks into Igbo language “Fiziksi” earlier this year 2024? He has relocated to the United States on a fully funded scholarship and graduate employment!
He said his life has changed since relocating from Nigeria to the US. According to him, he is being treated there like a king.
Here is what he said:
“Thank you, United States of America for recognising my effort and giving me the honour to be in your country; not just that, to be offered a fully funded scholarship with Graduate Employment in one of your best Universities, to pursue one of my greatest dreams, that’s being where I perfectly belong – academic world, where knowledge and education are highly valued. I pledge to give you my best”
“I was received like a King. Treated like an egg in a strange land where I wasn’t seen as a stranger but one who has a lot to offer the society.”
Mazi Ogbonnaya Okoro has over 15 years of experience in teaching and researching Igbo language, literature, history and culture. He has published more than 25 books in Igbo and a total of 58 published and unpublished manuscripts in Igbo Language.
In 2021, he launched the first Igbo learning website in Nigeria.
