Suspected thieves arrested for stealing armour cables from transformers in Calabar

Suspected thieves have been arrested for allegedly stealing armour cables from transformers in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

CONVERSEER gathered that the suspects were arrested on Friday by youths in Ikot Ansa while trying to steal armour cables belonging to transformers at Ekpo Iso.

According to Prince Victor Otu Iso Jr., Youth Leader of Ikot Ansa, who led the youth-laden vigilante, the suspects were caught right-handed in the morning hours of Friday attempting to steal the cables from the transformers.

Iso Jr. said he immediately notified people in government, including the Special Advisers to Governor Otu on Public Utilities, Engr. (Dr) Jerome Egbe, and General Duties, Barr. Ekpenyong Akiba.

On arrival, the Governor’s aides, who came with police officers from the Federal Housing Police Station, took custody of the suspects and later transferred them to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further interrogation and possible prosecution.

The appointees commended the youths for their efforts in apprehending the suspects, urging others to embrace the spirit of patriotism to rid the state of criminal elements.

CONVERSEER reports that vandalism, especially to public utility infrastructures, is common in Cross River State, and this has put some parts of the state in darkness.
