Armed Assailants Kidnap Five Farmers in Kwara Community

Gunmen have abducted five farmers, including a mother and daughter in Odo-Eku community in the Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.

 

It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the community in the early hours of Wednesday, January 15, 2025, and whisked their victims away to an unknown location. 

 

A community leader simply identified as Elder Ogundeji, the Odofin of Odo-Eku, confirmed the incident. 

 

“The victims are Hausa farmers who live in Odo-Eku and among them are a woman, her daughter, another woman who was visiting, and two men,” he said.

 

Ogundeji added that police officers had visited the scene. 

 

“We showed them where it happened, and they assured us they would investigate and work to rescue the victims.”

 

“Since yesterday (Wednesday) morning, the combined Vigilante group including those from other communities have gone into the forest in search of the abducted farmers.”

 

Spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun confirmed the abduction, adding that the police and vigilante are currently on rescue mission. 

 

“Kwara Police Command is aware of a kidnap incident that occurred at about 0115hours of 15/01/25 at the Odu-Eku Camp in Odueku Community of the Isin LGA of Kwara State; where 5 persons were kidnapped,” the PPRO said. 

 

“Two males and three females have been moved to an unknown location. Immediate deployment has long taken place; the Police, alongside the Vigilante, are on a rescue mission. Further updates will be communicated as it unfolds.”
