Troops Capture Three Cattle Rustlers in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested three suspected cattle rustlers and recovered cows in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

 

Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

 

“In a continued effort to sustain peace and security under the ongoing Operation Golden Peace, troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/ Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have achieved another significant success in curbing criminal activities within Taraba State,” the statement read.

“Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected rustled livestock from Kampanin Zurak in Plateau State into Taraba State, troops on 27 January 2025 intercepted three individuals identified as Sabiu Lawal, Haruna Ayuba, and Yusuf Mukawo, all from Kampanin Zurak. 

 

“The interception occurred at Namnai village in Gassol Local Government Area, where the suspects were found in possession of 174 cows and 57 sheep believed to have been rustled from border villages between Plateau and Taraba States.

 

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the livestock were being transported to Cameroon via Karamati in Gashaka Local Government Area. Efforts are ongoing in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including community leaders, to ascertain the ownership of the livestock for proper restitution to the rightful owners.

 

“6 Brigade Nigerian Army remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining law and order across Taraba State and beyond. 

 

“Citizens are encouraged to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid in the fight against criminal activities.”
