Former Super Eagles boss Jose Peseiro has secured a sensational return to the dugout as the new head coach of Egyptian Premier League (EPL) powerhouse Zamalek.
The Portuguese tactician’s two-year stint with Nigeria was nothing short of dramatic. A rocky start saw him lose his first two games, only to bounce back with crucial victories. However, his tenure peaked at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he led the Super Eagles to the final, only to suffer a heart-breaking loss to hosts Ivory Coast.
Despite guiding Nigeria to a runner-up finish, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) opted against renewing his contract, leaving Peseiro jobless for months.

Peseiro now takes charge of Zamalek, one of Africa’s most decorated clubs, with the enormous responsibility of dethroning fierce rivals Al Ahly and restoring the team’s dominance. The club last clinched the Egyptian Premier League(EPL) title in 2022 but has since struggled to maintain its elite status.
Former Sporting Lisbon manager will earn $75,000 monthly till the end of the ongoing EPL season.
This isn’t his first taste of Egyptian football—Peseiro had a short-lived spell with Al Ahly in 2015. With that experience in hand, he’ll be expected to make an immediate impact and silence his critics.
