UYO (CONVERSEER) – The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday defeated the Amavubi of Rwanda 1-0 in Uyo to keep their 2026 FIFA World Cup dreams alive.
Nigeria needed a win to keep their qualification hopes alive and it took substitute Tolu Arokodare just four minutes of being introduced to the pitch to register his first Super Eagles goal, which ended up being the winner.
It was all about the Super Eagles in terms of possession and shots on goal.
The game would’ve ended 3 or 5 goals in favour of Nigeria but the Rwandan goalkeeper, Fiacre Ntwari, was superb in between the sticks to keep it at 1-nil.
The win means Nigeria move two points above Rwanda to third in Group C, with Benin in second (11 points) and South Africa (16 points) in first to be played.
Despite the scrappy win, Nigeria lost Victor Osimhen to injury in the first half.
Nigeria need to win the last three games to stand a chance to qualify for the World Cup. The country has not been in the World Cup since 2014.
