Kano: Info Commissioner urges Deputy Gov to resign after refusing APC defection

By Our Reporter

KANO (CONVERSEER) – Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, has urged Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo to step down after refusing to join Governor Abba Yusuf in defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing journalists in Kano on Thursday, Waiya emphasised that effective governance depends on loyalty and trust. He argued that it would be inappropriate for someone who no longer shares political alignment with the governor to continue participating in executive council meetings, warning that sensitive government matters could be compromised.

“This is his personal choice, but it is not right for someone outside the fold to remain in council meetings,” Waiya remarked, adding that trust is the foundation of government operations.

He further stated that resignation would be the most dignified option for the deputy governor, noting, “If I were in his position, I would resign.”

Waiya’s comments come in the wake of Governor Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC, alongside several lawmakers. He described the move as advantageous for Kano, suggesting that alignment with the Federal Government would bring more development initiatives to the state.

The commissioner also assured residents that the administration is working to resolve the ongoing emirate dispute through dialogue, adherence to the law, and efforts to maintain peace. He emphasised that political differences would not be allowed to hinder governance or the collective well-being of Kano’s citizens.
