Foundation Lifts Teachers With Salary Support at Hope Waddell

The Hope Waddell Legacy Foundation (HWLF) has commenced a monthly salary augmentation for teaching staff at the Hope Waddell Training Institution in Calabar.

In a statement issued and signed by the Executive Secretary, Elder Emmanuel Ewa, said the initiative is aimed to stabilize the workforce, counter recent resignations caused by low pay as well as to protect academic standards at Nigeria’s oldest educational institution established in 1895.

Ewa said, this is “under a salary scale approved by the Foundation and endorsed by the National Executive Council of Hope Waddell Old Students’ Association.”

Currently, he said “(HWLF) is funding 50 percent of the recommended pay increase and “in January 2026, the first phase of the program distributed N920,000 to 49 full time staff and one part time teacher.

“These payments will continue until the Presbyterian Church Education Authority conducts a border salary review for all its schools”.

The Executive Secretary further explained that funding is coming from the Foundation’s investment income and surplus donations.

“HWLF, has raised over N174 million from alumni, class sets, individual donors, and the state government, he noted “.

Mainwhile, “a total of N160 million has been invested in Treasury Bills, generating more than N27 million in returns. All funds are hed in joint accounts at First Bank of Nigeria and managed by the Board’s Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer to ensure transparency, he added”.

Recalled that the Foundation was incorporated on January 21, 2025 and formally launched in March 2025. Its mandate includes maintaining and rehabilitating infrastructure, awarding scholarships, supporting students and staff development and helping graduates maximize their education and skills.

It is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the National Executive Council of (HWOSA). Members are, Mr. Akabom Enebong – Chairman, Vice chairman, Chief Barr Anta Ekei Pascal, Mr. Nsikak Ekure – Secretary, Eld Indonesit Ekpenya – treasurer, Eld Ntuk Ntuk – member, Mr. Ekpo Nta – member and Mr. Mfonso Eka – member.
