Cross River State Police Command has intervened in what would have resulted in a full-blown communal crisis between Ofatura and Ovonum communities in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Converseer learned that the incident which started one day again which was later discovered to be connected to alleged cassava theft and a land dispute.
Video obtained by our reporter shows youths fanning the flames of war with various unchallenged weapons.
Confirming the incident, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said the communities were brought into a peaceful dialogue.
“The Command confirms that a communal misunderstanding occurred between Ofatura and Ovonum communities in Obubra LGA following a report of alleged cassava theft which was later discovered to be connected to a land dispute.
“However, following the intervention of the Command both communities were brought into a peaceful dialogue and agreed to embrace peace and avoid taking laws into their hands,” Eitokpah stated.
The clash is coming in few weeks after the Ugep and Idomi crisis in Yakurr LGA of the state.
