From Scholastica Hir, Makurdi

Benue State ‎Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has called on the people of the state to remain calm, exercise restraint over the proposed Ranching policy in Benue and other state saying the interests of Benue State and its people remain his foremost priority.

Governor Alia, who stated this through his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, said he  is fully engaged on the matter and is in consultation with the people and relevant authorities.

The statement said “Governor Hyacinth Alia is a steadfast democrat who remains conscious that his mandate is a product of the people’s will.
‎
‎”He has consistently maintained that every Benue person is a critical stakeholder in the collective effort to make the state great again.”
‎
‎Kula said the governor has demonstrated on several occasions that he does not merely lead but serves.
‎
‎”Against this background, and in view of the Federal Government’s proposal to establish pilot ranches in some states, including Benue, there is a need for restraint and thoughtful consideration.

“There is no need to take the issue to the streets, churches, media or marketplaces in a rush to politicise it.”
‎
‎He noted that “Governor Alia has never taken a position that is against the interests of Benue State.
‎
‎”The governor is fully engaged on the matter and remains in consultation with the people and relevant authorities.

“He will, as he has always done, approach the issue with careful consideration and strategic judgement, ensuring that the interests of Benue State and its people remain his foremost priority.”
‎
The statement cautioned that “‎It is not every issue that requires an immediate public pronouncement. Sometimes, measured deliberation produces better outcomes.
