Adobe Launches Generative AI Tools for Automated Batch Editing and Video Translation

Adobe has unveiled a range of new generative AI tools aimed at simplifying labour-intensive production tasks, including bulk image editing and multilingual video translation.

The standout feature, Firefly Bulk Create, enables users to resize or replace backgrounds for up to 10,000 images with a single click, reducing the need for manual adjustments.

Developed through integrated Adobe APIs, Bulk Create is now available in beta via the Adobe Firefly web application. It comprises two primary tools:

  1. Remove Background: Users can upload images from their devices or platforms like Dropbox and Adobe Experience Manager to swiftly remove or replace backgrounds with custom colours or images.
  2. Resize: This tool offers preset sizes tailored for social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. However, its AI-based resizing mechanism showed limitations, with visible distortions during demonstrations, particularly for complex backgrounds.

The tools support PNG and JPEG outputs, with Adobe planning to introduce Photoshop PSD compatibility soon. While similar functions exist in competing platforms like Canva, Bulk Create’s one-click operation offers a competitive edge.

In addition to image editing, Adobe is preparing to launch a Firefly Services developer API, which includes features like:

  • Dubbing and Lip Sync: Translate video audio into 14 languages with synchronized lip movements.
  • InDesign Automation: Automatically format text and images for print and digital media.
  • Digital Avatars: Generate avatars using text descriptions and voice recordings for video content.

These innovations are priced based on usage, with premium Firefly subscriptions offering generative credits for accessing the tools. Adobe acknowledges the significant computational resources required for large-scale tasks like editing thousands of images, highlighting the cost implications for users.
