African Union Mediator Faure Gnassingbé Visits Angola for DRC Peace Talks

Newly appointed African Union (AU) mediator and Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé is in Luanda today, Wednesday, as part of efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Gnassingbé is expected to meet Angolan President João Lourenço, who currently chairs the African Union.

The talks will focus on advancing peace initiatives and finding lasting solutions to the DRC crisis.

President Gnassingbé succeeds President Lourenço as AU mediator for the conflict, following the latter’s resignation from the role to focus on broader continental responsibilities.

This visit marks a significant step in the AU-led mediation process aimed at stabilizing the volatile eastern region of the DRC.
