The Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port in Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Ini Emeobong has declined to follow his principal, Governor Umo Eno to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Governor Eno formerly dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday, June 6 to the APC in a brief ceremony at the Banquet Hall Uyo.

Pillar Today had exclusively reported that the governor on May 22 had at the Delivery Advisory meeting with Delivery Advisors, Commissioners and some stakeholders in Uyo, the state capital, said any of his cabinet members “not willing to leave with him can resign” and his decision to leave the PDP is final and he can’t negotiate that with any of his appointees, and besides “elected officials like House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you”

Accordingly, Comrade Ememobong who was a one Commissioner for Information in the state,  a member of the State Executive Council tendered his letter of resignation dated June 6, and addressed to the Governor.

The letter reads: “I write to most sincerely appreciate the confidence and opportunity you offered me to serve in your cabinet in two critical Ministries-Information and Special Duties & Ibom Deep Sea Port. The experience garnered within this period has been very enlightening and I profoundly value the privileged opportunity to have served in your administration.

“You have directed that any appointee who is unwilling to accompany you to switch from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, should resign. Ipso facto, based on my personal conviction, I will be unable to join the All Progressives Congress, I hereby most respectfully tender my resignation as Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port and a member of the State Executive Council.

“May I most heartily again thank you for the opportunity to serve your administration and our state”.

Commenting on the governor’s defection, top sources in APC said, “It’s a good development. The PDP people coming in have to queue. As it is, only the Governor is sure of his ticket come 2027. Defection today was done in the banquet hall but formal rally will be done soon at the stadium”
