Burkinabe Authorities Ban Raw Cashew Exports to Boost Local Processing

Burkina Faso has announced an immediate suspension of raw cashew nut exports to ensure that local processing industries have adequate raw materials

According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, the joint decision by the Ministries of Industry, Agriculture, and Finance, aims to strengthen Burkina Faso’s cashew industry, create jobs, and enhance economic sovereignty.

Authorities explained that all raw cashew exports will remain suspended until further notice, ensuring that local factories can process more of the crop domestically.

The Burkinabe Cashew Council, which oversees the sector, urged stakeholders to comply, emphasizing that the move will boost value addition and long-term industry growth.

Burkina Faso, one of Africa’s rising cashew producers, has averaged 200,000 tonnes of production annually over the past five years.

In 2023, cashew nuts became the country’s second-largest agricultural export, with over 120,000 tonnes sold internationally, generating more than 60 billion CFA francs (approximately $95 million).
