The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has responded to FIFA’s proposed Forward Enterprise initiative, confirming it will subject the plan to a comprehensive review through its Executive Committee before adopting an official position.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, CAF said it had received formal correspondence from FIFA on the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise initiative as part of the ongoing consultation process involving FIFA Member Associations and the FIFA Council.
The continental football governing body disclosed that CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, will convene a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee next week to examine the proposal and evaluate its potential implications for African football.
“As part of this consultation process, the CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, will host a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee next week, to inter-alia, assess and evaluate the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise initiative,” the statement read.
CAF also called on its Member Associations to independently scrutinise the proposal and actively participate in the consultation process in line with CAF and FIFA regulations and established governance procedures.
“CAF also encourages its Member Associations to examine the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal and participate in the consultation process in accordance with CAF and FIFA’s regulations and established procedures,” the confederation stated.
Reaffirming its commitment to the growth of football across the continent, CAF said it would continue engaging with its Member Associations, FIFA, fellow continental confederations and other stakeholders to ensure any future decision serves the interests of the game.
“CAF is committed to continue consulting and working together with its Member Associations, FIFA, other Football Confederations and stakeholders in support of increasing financial and other resources for the development and growth of football in Africa and worldwide,” the statement added.
CAF’s response comes as football stakeholders across the world continue to weigh the implications of FIFA’s proposed Forward Enterprise initiative, which has generated intense debate over its governance structure, commercial objectives and long-term impact on the global game. The Executive Committee’s assessment is expected to shape CAF’s contribution to FIFA’s ongoing consultation process before any final decision is reached.
