The Commissioner of Police (CP), Cross River State Command, Mr. Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has expressed the readiness of the Police to collaborate with the media in maintaining a safe environment in the state.
This statement came on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the new State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on the Commissioner of Police at the State Police Headquarters, Diamond Hill Calabar.
Grimah stressed the need for continued vigilance despite perceived security successes, warning, “when you think that all is well, that is when the most dangerous things are being planned. We should not take that for granted.”
Commending the efforts of the state’s security forces, Grimah relayed the state governor’s (Senator Bassey Otu) praise for the command, quoting him (Otu) as saying, “by my assessment, I think our command is the best in the country”.
Grimah maintained that the progress achieved was as a result of the collective effort of all security personnel and agencies operating in the state.
Acknowledging the media’s crucial role in reporting successes and addressing issues, Grimah stressed that “performances cannot be discussed without carrying the media along. The information provided by the media help us address issues promptly and effectively.”
Continuing, the Commissioner noted that, the necessity of a strong partnership with the media is crucial , stating, “Media reports play a key role in our operations. When issues are raised through the news media, we act on them promptly, regardless of the source, aiming to ensure a safe environment for all residents of Cross River.”
Earlier, the Chairman of NUJ, Cross River State Council, Archibong Bassey, lauded the security forces for their dedication.
Remarking, “Cross Riverians can now sleep with two eyes closed, thanks to your hard work” as she expressed commitment to supporting the police in maintaining peace in the state.
“We must appreciate the work being done to restore Cross River to its former peaceful state. We are committed to working hand in hand with the police to support their efforts.” Bassey assured.
