The Cross River State High Court sitting in Calabar has fixed 26th September 2024, for ruling on an interlocutory application filed by claimants in the renewed Obong of Calabar tussle.
Recall that court had fixed 26th June 2024, to rule on the claimants’ interlocutory application but subsequently shifted the date to Tuesday, 25th June 2024.
The court presided over by Justice Elias Abua, during Tuesday’s sitting, rescheduled the ruling to 26th September 2024.
In Suit No. HC/278/2023 involving Etubom Essien Ekpeyong, Etubom Okon and Etubom Micah Archibong, the court ordered that parties involved in the legal tussle and their counsel make themselves available on 26th September, the rescheduled date.

According to Leadership, the legal battle between former Minister of Finance, Chief Anthony Ani, and the sitting treaty king of the Efik Kingdom, Etubom Ekpo Abasi Otu V, had their supporters in court.
“The office of the Obong of Calabar is so revered in the state that the status quo should be maintained by parties.
“We assure parties of fair hearing. Therefore, I advise that parties go home peacefully while awaiting the court’s final decision. Parties must be in court. Absence will not be tolerated,” Justice Abua warned.
