Converseer retracts false imposition, N70m allegations story against Works Commissioner Pius Ankpo Edet

Hon. Ankpo Pius Edet, Cross River State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure

By Editorial Team

CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – Converseer hereby retracts and dissociates itself from an article published several months ago titled “Akamkpa in the Eyes of Storm as Works Commissioner Plans to Impose Mother-In-Law as Chairman”, which made allegations against the Cross River State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Ankpo Pius Edet.

Following an extensive internal review and findings conducted over several months, Converseer has determined that the allegations contained in the publication were unfounded and did not reflect the principles of fairness, balance, and accuracy that guide responsible journalism.

The earlier story claimed, among other things, that the Commissioner was allegedly attempting to impose his mother-in-law as consensus chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akamkpa Local Government Area during the 2024 Local Government Election, allegedly using financial inducements (N70 million) to influence the party’s screening process. The publication also suggested other inappropriate actions attributed to the Commissioner.

Upon further investigation and engagement with relevant stakeholders, Converseer confirms that these claims were not true. The story was published without hearing from Hon. Ankpo Pius Edet or verifying the facts, which falls short of our journalistic ethics.

We deeply regret the distress, reputational damage, and inconvenience this publication may have caused Hon. Ankpo Pius Edet, his family, associates, and the people of Akamkpa. Converseer takes full responsibility for this lapse in editorial judgment and has since strengthened its team and internal editorial processes to prevent such occurrences in the future.

We hereby tender our unreserved apology to Hon. Ankpo Pius Edet and retract in its entirety the allegations previously published.

Signed:
Editorial Team, Converseer
