The Government of Cross River State has withdrawn all its traffic enforcement officers from all routes within the state.
CONVERSEER learned that the withdrawal is till further notice.
According to a statement signed by J.D. Agba, Special Assistant to the Commissioner for Transportation, Pastor Ekpeyong Cobham, on Monday, October 30, 2023, anyone who flouts the order will be arrested and handed over to the police.
“This is to inform members of the public that the Cross River State Ministry of Transportation has withdrawn all its traffic enforcement officers from all routes in the State till further notice.
“Consequently, anyone parading himself/herself as a representative of the Ministry’s enforcement team should be arrested and handed over to the police,” the statement read.

CONVERSEER reports that on October 26, 2023, minibus drivers protested alleged extortion by enforcement officers in Calabar.
The drivers said were being extorted by the official to the tune of N45,000 despite paying between N500 and N700 daily for tickets.
