The Cross River State Government (CRSG) has suspended the sales of tickets and collection of levies on inter-city transport operators in the state.
The suspension followed shortly after a meeting between the Cross River State Government and the leadership of the Inter-City Drivers Association, which addressed concerns related to multiple ticketing and levies during the week.
“His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State, has approved the immediate suspension of the sale of tickets, collection of levies, and all related charges imposed on inter-city transport operators by govemment agents and security operatives across the state,” a statement by Linus Obogo, Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, on Thursday, read.
The statement added, “All relevant government agencies and security personnel are hereby directed to comply fully with this directive pending further notice, as the government will, in due course, convene a stakeholders’ meeting to develop a lasting and mutually beneficial framework for the transport sector.”
This intervention reflects the Governor’s commitment to easing the burden on citizens and transport operators while promoting a more business-friendly environment in this season of sweetness.”
Converseer reports that the drivers embarked on an industrial action over what they termed as “excessive taxation, harassment, and alleged extortion from security agencies.”
