The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed a viral social media claim alleging that it is secretly recruiting new personnel, describing the information as false and urging Nigerians to disregard it.
The anti-graft agency issued the clarification on Monday through its verified X (formerly Twitter) account, warning members of the public to be wary of misinformation designed to mislead unsuspecting job seekers.
In the post, the commission displayed a bold graphic marked “FAKE NEWS” alongside the warning, “THIS IS FALSE NEWS. BEWARE!”, to counter the widely circulated claim.
The false message alleged that the EFCC had quietly commenced recruitment and suggested that successful applicants would begin training next month. It also encouraged users to circulate anonymous messages, further fuelling the misinformation.
By officially labelling the claim as fake, the commission stressed that no secret recruitment exercise was underway and advised Nigerians not to fall victim to fraudsters exploiting the agency’s name.
The EFCC noted that the misleading post is part of a recurring pattern in which criminals circulate fake employment opportunities to deceive members of the public, particularly young job seekers, with the aim of extorting money and personal information.
The commission reiterated that all its recruitment exercises are conducted transparently and announced publicly through its verified communication channels. It emphasised that it does not recruit personnel through unofficial platforms, third parties or clandestine processes.
The agency urged Nigerians to verify all information relating to its operations through its official website and verified social media platforms before taking any action, warning that reliance on unverified posts could expose individuals to fraud.
