VILLARREAL (CONVERSEER) – Villarreal CF are two games away from playing in the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League, courtesy of a lone goal from super-sub Etta Eyong.

The Cameroonian came in the 85th minute for Ayoze Perez and scored the winning goal in the 89th minute for The Yellow Submarine away from home at Montilivi, Girona, on Saturday, 10th May 2025.

When the odds were down, Villarreal Manager Marcelino García Toral trusted Eyong by introducing him to the game and the Douala-born delivered within just four minutes of being on the pitch to ensure his side beat struggling Girona to three points.

Converseer reports that the goal is Eyong’s first senior goal for the Spanish side.

Karl Edouard Blaise Etta Eyong, born on 14th October 2003, is a Cameroonian footballer who plays as either a midfielder or a forward for Spanish club Villarreal CF B, before being promoted to the first team.

The win means Villarreal are now four points above Real Betis, who have a game in hand, in fifth place, which is enough for a Champions League spot next season.

Current standing of the Spanish La Liga sees Barcelona topping the game with 79 points, followed by Real Madrid in second with 75 points and Atlético Madrid in third with 67 points. Athletic Club, Villarreal, and Real Betis are in fourth, fifth and sixth, with 61, 61, and 57 points respectively.

Villarreal’s next La Liga game is against Leganes at home on 14th May 2025, and the 2020/2021 UEFA Europa League winners should be winning that match on paper.
