Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has urged Local Government Council Chairmen to ensure the execution of landmark projects before they end their tenure.

Oborevwori made the call at the unveiling of projects, including the inauguration of Ukwuani Mass Transit in Obiaruku, Ukwuani Local Government Area on Thursday.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, also expressed his administration’s pleasure with the achievements of council chairmen across the State.

According to him, local government council chairmen have continued to execute landmark projects that are being inaugurated across the state.

He said, “Today, I am very happy with the achievements of Ukwuani Local Government Council, ably led by the Council Chairman, Barr. Possible Ajede.

“This is not the first time that we are coming to Ukwuani Local Government on his invitation to commission projects.

“Like other council chairmen in our state, right from his first tenure, we have seen schools, classroom blocks being renovated, we have seen constructed farm roads, we have seen markets being built in various locations across the local government.

“We have seen abattoirs, Okpala-Uku Palaces being built, some of them already commissioned, we have seen town halls, various forms of empowerment and training programmes especially for our youth and women, so, the Chairman, Barr. Ajede has done a lot, and as a state, we are very happy with his achievements.

“Today, he has added another cap by joining some local government chairmen who have constructed asphalt roads.

“The construction of a library is most significant to our educational pursuit, through it, millions of people will equally be liberated educationally.

“You have done very well, Mr Chairman, and we keep praying that God will continue to give you the strength and enablement to continue to manage the affairs of Ukwuani Local Government Area successfully till the end of your tenure.

“I want to believe that this is not going to be the last time that you will invite us to commission projects; you and other local government chairmen still have some years before the end of your tenures and I am sure that with your strength and your mental capacity, your legacies will be littered everywhere across the local government by the time you will be leaving your offices.”

Earlier, in his address, the Chairman of the Ukwuani Local Government Council, Possible Ajede, said that the commissioned projects were products of his promises.

He said that the initiative behind the 28 Mini buses, termed Ukwuani Mass Transit, was to reduce the cost of transportation in the area.

Some of those who spoke included the Commissioner for Finance, Sir Fidelis Tilije, his Local Government Affairs counterpart, Prince Kelly Penawou, and Chief Daddi Amudo, among others, who thanked the governor for creating the enabling environment for Councils to carry out their democratic functions effectively.

The member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Rep. Nnamdi Ezechi, the Ndokwa West Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Charles Emetulu, and his Okpe Constituency counterpart, Hon. James Aguoye, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Sir Christopher Osakwe, traditional rulers, were among those who attended the event.
