ACCRA (CONVERSEER) – Ghana’s energy sector is on the brink of a nationwide power crisis due to a severe shortage of liquid fuel needed to operate the country’s power plants.

Energy Minister John Jinapor raised the alarm during an appearance before Parliament’s Energy Committee on Thursday, May 15, revealing that Ghana has less than three days’ supply of fuel left.

He explained that although some fuel shipments have been secured on credit, the lack of immediate funding poses a serious threat to power generation across the country.

The Ministry of Energy is urgently seeking billions of cedis to cover the cost of fuel already ordered, but financial constraints continue to hinder progress.

Minister Jinapor noted that discussions are ongoing with the Ministry of Finance, but its limited fiscal space makes rapid intervention difficult.
