ACCRA (CONVERSEER) – The Ghanaian government has summoned the Ambassador of Russia to Accra, Sergei Berdnikov, to formally protest the alleged publication of explicit images of Ghanaian women without their consent by a person suspected to be of Russian origin.
Acting on the directive of the Foreign Affairs Minister, authorities conveyed what they described as strong outrage over the incident, labelling it a grave breach of Ghanaian law and a violation of the victims’ privacy and dignity.
The government also requested Moscow’s cooperation to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
During discussions, Ambassador Berdnikov reportedly acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations, including their cybercrime implications, and expressed Russia’s readiness to collaborate with Ghanaian authorities.
However, he indicated that the Russian side could not immediately verify the nationality of the suspect, noting that the name circulating in media reports does not correspond to a recognised Russian first name and may instead be an inappropriate expression.
The embassy signaled its willingness to share relevant information to support investigations, despite the absence of a formal extradition agreement between the two countries.
Ghana’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to using existing bilateral ties and international legal mechanisms to secure justice for the affected individuals.
