Calabar, Cross River State – Governor Bassey Otu declares Thursday and Friday public holidays in Cross River State.
According to a statement by Governor Otu’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Nsa Gill, on Wednesday, Thursday, 31st October, and Friday, 1st November, public holidays are due to the 2024 Local Government election held on 2nd November across the state.
“In a bid to ensure full participation of all Cross Riverians in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 2nd, His Excellency, the Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu has declared Thursday, October 31, and Friday, November 1, 2024, as public holidays across the State,” the statement said.
It added that Governor Otu said, “The decision is to allow ample time for those who have to travel from Calabar to various parts of the state, particularly those in far-flung areas, who have to exercise their civic duty and vote in the election.”
The statement further added that Governor Otu urges “all residents to take advantage of the two-day holidays to engage in the electoral process and make their voices heard.”
The Governor also said “It is imperative that every citizen participates actively,” Gill’s statement maintained.
