More videos have emerged as people are being pulled out from the rubble of the explosion that rocked Adeyi Estate in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State on Tuesday.
Earlier, the Oyo State Police Command said the cause of the explosion and the number of casualties is unknown.
“Explosion around Dejo Oyelese Street Bodija Ibadan around 7:44pm today Tuesday 17/01/2024. The cause of the explosion is unknown. Number of Dead and Injured yet unknown as search continues. Ample deployment on ground. Updates coming up soon,” the Police statement on X read.
Also, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA who said it quickly mobilised to the site after a distress call at 19.30 hrs, said, “The Zonal Coordinator swiftly mobilised response Agencies to the scene of explosion. On arrival at the scene, it was observed that it was a suspected explosion of IED which affected over twenty houses.”
Adding that, “Casualty figures can not be ascertained for now. Search and Rescue, SAR operation is still ongoing. Stakeholders present include NPF, NSCDC, DSS, SEMA, Nigeria Army, Federal and State fire service, Nigerian Red Cross, State Ministry of Environment, and Amotekun Corps.”

Briefing the press on Wednesday, Governor Seyi Makinde revealed that the explosion is not unconnected to activities of illegal miners operating in the state, adding that two persons were killed while 77 others were injured.
