An indiscriminate fire incident has burnt down SteadyFlow College of Education in Akparabong, Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.

CONVERSEER learned that the inferno happened on Tuesday, destroying the whole academic complex and other facilities worth millions of naira.

According to sources, everything was destroyed by the fire, including lecture halls, offices, and several other valuables worth millions of naira.

Residents of the community attributed the cause of the fire to a discarded cigarette filter by a passerby in the nearby bush close to the perimeter fence which later scaled through to burn the school facilities.

Accounting on the incident, SteadyFlow College of Education Founder, Hon. Jones Tangbang, attributed the fire incident to indiscriminate bush burning.

Tangbang, a former National Assembly member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, called on the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA and the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency SEMA for assistance in order to reopen the institution.

He said: “We just thank God that no life was lost. We need state and federal government agencies (SEMA & NEMA) to come to our aid because resumption is affected by the destruction of facilities at the college.

“SteadyFlow College of Education Academic complex had been engulfed by wildfire today (Tuesday) and so much has been destroyed.”
