The Cross River State Police Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings on one of its officers involved in the alleged assault on a driver in Ikom Local Government Area.
A viral video spotted by Converseer on Saturday shows Ikom residents dismantling one of the border checkpoints after a police officer allegedly assaulted a driver.
Responding to the incident, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, Command spokesperson, assured the public that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the proceedings.
Eitokpah said, “The Cross River State Police Command is aware of the reported incident involving an allegation of assault and unprofessional conduct by a police officer at the Ikom Border Post on the 28th August 2026.”
He added, “The officer involved has been recalled to his base and is currently facing disciplinary proceedings in line with established police procedures.”
“The Command reiterates that unprofessional conduct and abuse of members of the public will not be tolerated, and assures the public that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the proceedings.”
The police imagemaker said the Command remains committed to professionalism, accountability and respect for human rights.
