Kidnapped UNICAL students regain freedom

The three students of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) kidnapped a few weeks ago, have been released.

They were released on Friday morning, 12th April 2024.

CONVERSEER reports that the three students, one male and two females, were kidnapped in their hostel, Freedom Hostel, UNICAL Staff Quarters, on 29th March 2024.

The three students are Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level student of the Department of Medicine and Surgery; Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level student of the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology; and Damilola Dickson, a final-year student of the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology.

A statement from the Public Relations Unit of the University confirmed the release of the kidnapped students on Friday.

When contacted on Saturday morning, SP Irene Ugbo, Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State confirmed the release of the students to CONVERSEER.

Ugbo said, “They have been released. They released them yesterday morning.”
